Will Vinton’s Claymation Christmas 1 of 3
Posted By: admin | 2009.11.23
Herb and Rex, the Jurassic odd couple, introduce segments featuring the Three Wise Men, singing camels, ice-skating penguins, and the hilarious Paris Bellharmonic Orchestra. There’s even a Motown rendition of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” The entire cast joins a rousing chorus finale of “Here We Come A-Wassailing,” which is certain to put everyone in the Christmas mood. (1987, 24 minutes.)

I mean it was released for a record before, I mean why not try to bring some of these carols back in this form? I mean I’d like to see this on a CD, or in Mp3 form, or even on the iTunes store. I mean some of these carols were very catchy the way they were sung in this special. Why not try to revive them in some way or form? (And yes I know this special is out on DVD I mean just the carols, I’d like to see another soundtrack of them released).

Yeah this version of We Three Kings has to be the best take on the carol.

Something similar happened to Me one year at My church (I’m a Christian though) when they sang Joy to the World, I also like the take on Joy to the World so all I could remember or think of was the Joy to the World segment and version that was in this special.

The California Raisins could be that reason, and the reason why the whole California Raisins pheonomon died and that the Raisins are forgotten as well (and haven’t been revived since), which is stupid don’t you agree?

Does anyone know why they stopped televising this special during the Christmas season? Most large television stations still play Garfield’s Christmas and other old Christmas specials every year, but not this one! This is a classic, I’m disappointed that they don’t bring this one back for the new generations to see.

I loved watching this as a kid…i’m 32 now and my brothers and sisters think i’m crazy because they don’t remember it as well as I do. THANKS for POSTING IT. Like most say when we sing We Three Kings in church I have to sing the version from the show.

Ask them. Oh no, I said ‘them!’ I guess I’m a racist.

Its apparently because a lot of black people said it was racist, stereotype of black people.

Well another reason could be because the special features two religious Christmas carols (We Three Kings and Joy to the World) that relate to the birth Christ himself and that might offend some people who aren’t Christian or Catholic, because they don’t believe in that kind of stuff in fact no one could get away with showing anything about the religious side of Christmas on T.V. these days, only reason the Peanuts special does is because of the popularity of Peanuts and thats the *2bcont.

and the little bit that comes from the bible in Charlie Brown Christmas is the most famous part of the special. Of course Claymation Christmas had nothing to protect itself and didn’t have the same popularity as the Peanuts one, so I guess another reason is that since it featured two carols related to religion could be another reason it got axed.

I remember seeing this that Christmas in ‘87, but it was only shown once that I recall. I simply loved it, not the usual fare you see around Xmastime. Simply Marvelous!!

This was one of my brother’s and my favorite specials when we were kids. It wasn’t Christmas without Claymation, Garfield special, Merry Christmas Charlie Brown, Mickey’s Christmas Carol and the Grinch.
AtariMan76 / December 13, 2008 3:01 am
Back when The Disney Channel was still cool, they would show this every year.
