  • VladimirVLD:

American Christmas? I thought the purpos of this holiday was to bring people together, not divide them into races.

  • corey0007:

its not Christmas without this movie!

  • maxstrains:

    My favorite Christmas movie.

  • ihatemyuncle:

I thought it was produced in Cleveland?

  • sexualexplosion1:

me and the writer grew up in the same town of hammond Indiana where this is supposed to be. its not christmas without this movie :)

  • Raycheetah:

It’s more about how Americans, as a culture, experienced the holiday in that time and setting (the ’30s midwest). A comparable film about Christmas in Bulgaria, for example, would not resonate so much with those who did not know the traditions and inevitable foibles unique to that culture.

Anyway, it’s the universal things in the film that make it so enjoyable, because almost anybody can relate to childhood and the lessons we all learn.

I hope your Christmas is merry, this year! =^[.]^=

I highly recommend Jean Shepherd’s book, “In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash,” from which this story is taken. He has a couple of others which relate to growing up in “Hohman,” Indiana, and they’re a charming slice of life for those who enjoy a little nostalgia (though Shep might rise up and haunt me for calling his works “nostalgic”).

The first time I saw this movie, I didn’t know it was from Shep’s books. It was an awesome surprise to see what I had read on the screen! =^[.]^=
